One day, a pair of cousins decided to change the world. How you ask? One thing that the world needs right now is environmental change. Even the smallest action can make a big difference. For example, a beach cleanup is what that pair of cousins decided to do.
Today, we did a beach cleanup in Roatan, Honduras. Trash being cleaned from beaches is especially essential in Roatan because it is one of the centers of reef life. Beautiful coral, fish, mammals and other sea beings have made their homes below the surface of the glistening water. Trash floating into their homes is harmful or even deadly. That is why picking up trash on beaches is a super important task to protect the growth of reef life.
We and our family members did a simple beach cleanup with just some trash bags and gloves. We walked along the beach picking up trash as we went. We encountered glass bottles, cans, plastic bags, bottle caps and chip bags. Fish could get caught or get sick from all of those things. The same things goes for all the other sea creatures. Of course we rewarded ourselves afterwards by getting sushi and smoothies. After a good job has been done, there's nothing like getting a little reward!
We and our SOP community strongly encourage you to get out there and make a difference. Even the little, simple things like picking up some sea trash go a long, long way. Remember, happy environment, happy you!
